Christian Dior
Being a vintage magazine and all, we’re quite familiar with Dior circa 1948, where Christian Dior changed the direction of fashion with his modern, feminine silhouettes. Billowing skirts, houndstooth patterns, classic pencil skirts, pointed stilettos and boobtube dresses accentuated at the waist. For the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, Raf Simons (creative director at Dior) added something quite unexpected to the garments – illustrations by Andy Warhol on the clutch bags, totes and cocktail dresses.
“There’s a lot of juxtaposition between things that are very much in contrast as well. Something very surreal with something very real.” – Raf Simons.
For Dior’s setting, there were big silver balloons (many bloggers Instagrammed themselves in the reflection) and for the soundtrack, it was a recording of Laurie Anderson when on a visit to a vet in West Village to see why her dog was fat.
Simons has taken a completely different direction with the brand, which makes us so excited for Dior, and fashion in general. He creates wearable clothes that women are able to incorporate into their wardrobes (hence no evening wear).
If we had to explain “mixing modern with vintage” or “a salute to the past” (which is what our magazine stands for), we would use Dior’s lastest collection as a reference.
