We’re so inspired by Valentino’s latest collection of bright pink, classic white and charcoal grey capes. It’s a must-have for winter for sure.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ashley Marié, I’m a freelance photographer and retoucher living and working in Cape Town, specialising in fashion, art, and portraiture. My job is my hobby and I love every minute of it, despite having little to no free time. When I do have time to spare I end up doing something creative anyway, or I read a novel or page though one of my art books for inspiration. I love reading. I’m busy moving my blog over to WordPress, but in the meantime you can keep up to date with my work and behind the scenes at ashleymarie-1.blogspot.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by, and find inspiration in, almost anything. Music is probably one of the biggest sources. I love old school rock and grunge, but find weird indie or classical music works best (like CocoRosie, Ane Brun, and Alt-J). Images also inspire me. Movies, theatre, sometimes even a location. I’ll see, read, or hear something I like and want to incorporate it in a shoot somehow and work my concept around that.
Your favourite places to visit in SA?
I love visiting little country towns like Stellenbosch, Franschoek, or Darling. Places that have an old world charm, beautiful architecture and a rugged natural beauty with overgrown gardens. Places with a cosy vintage feel, coffee shops and deli’s in the autumn months and beautiful gardens for spring/summer walks with an ice-cream in hand. Or pretty wine farms to explore and have lunch at. Or stopping at a farm stall that sells fresh home made bread and picnic baskets. I think I like both the rustic, unkept countryside and the more sophisticated coffee shops. Depends on the season I think.
I also love walking in forests, such as in Tokai. Oh and of course, Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town! Taking the train there along sea and then strolling through all the antique shops and book stores. I love ANY book store. My favourite has to be the Book Lounge though, corner of Roeland and Buitenkant street in Cape Town…
What does vintage mean to you?
Vintage to me is about that old world charm. Something sentimental and with a hidden history. It’s a feeling something gives you, a smell. It isn’t just about how old something is, but I suppose also in a sense how used it is. I love the idea of something having a story behind it. Like old suitcases…imagining all the places that they’ve travelled to for example, and if they had eyes and mouths to tell of all they’ve seen.
Your favourite blogs/websites?
I’d list Fashion Gone Rogue as one of my all time favourite websites. It’s a great source of inspiration and a place to find good references for shoots. Pinterest is another and I love using it for creating shoot mood boards, although I tend to get a bit lost on it sometimes and lose track of the time, then end up looking up baking recipes… I also love PhotoVogue for gorgeous photos, DesignTAXI for interesting concepts in all creative fields. Online magazines like Coco, A Fashion Friend, Plus27, Papercut and of course, Vintage Lifestyle (to name but a few) for the amazing fashion photography they showcase. I love looking at all kinds of fashion so any site that offers this instantly becomes a favourite.

If there’s one thing to be excited about today, it’s Jane Sews’ beautiful new Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook. Alexa Chung has always been known for her amazing sense of style. Mostly for what she wears, but now also for how she decorates her home. Her no-fuss, vintage inspired New York apartment with its face brick walls, vintage record player (with a David Bowie vinyl) and the casually hung porch lights and British flag have us inspired.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Amy Scheepers and I am a photographer currently living in Port Elizabeth. I also blog at Fancy Pants (fancypantstheblog.com) and that’s all about my personal style and photography. I take photo’s and read quite a bit in my spare time. I also love watching good movies and series.
What inspires you?
If I see a beautiful landscape it inspires me. Illustrations and pictures do too. When light falls in a particular way, that inspires me the most.
Your favourite places to visit in South Africa?
Cape Town and Transkei in general. Vovo Telo in Richmond Hill, Kalk Bay, Milnerton market, Woodlands eatery, and Seals beach.
What does vintage mean to you?
I think vintage refers to clothing 20 years and older. When it’s beautifully crafted and made to last. And I think brands throw that term around way too loosely.
Your favourite blogs/websites?
Fashion Toast for the clothes and Man Repeller for the writing. Natalie off duty and Color Me Nana for the beautiful clothing and photography – they tell a story with their blogs and their passion for life comes through in their writing. Love Aesthetics for Ivania’s incredible, and simple, taste. Kastor & Pollux and The Ordinary People because those girls have killer style and I enjoy their writing. Kayture because she has really good photo’s and Le Blog de Betty because I am envious of everything she wears. Oh and One Of Each - she rarely updates these days but I love her style.
